Fred Krueger, the burnt-up, sweater-clad, maniac of all teens' nightmares got his humble beginnings here with one flick of his razor-filled glove. Nancy is having nightmares, seems that she's not the only one either. Someone is chasing her in her dreams, someone that seems WAY too real. She's severely disturbed by the dark shadow chasing her in her sleep and it doesn't take long for her to discover that her friends, too, have dreamed of the same man. While hanging out with her boyfriend (Johnny Depp's first film appearance, YAY!!), her best friend Tina, and Tina's "rebel" boyfriend, our innocent little Tina happens to get herself dead in a most memorable way. The town thinks it was her nutty boyfriend, Nancy knows better. Now imagine her surprise when none of the adults in town believe that her best friend was murdered by a loud-mouthed, razor-wielding, crispy critter in her dreams. I know, I was shocked too. Anyway, from there of course Nancy knows she'll have to deal wi! th this evil on her own, and so the battle ensues. A classic movie, Wes Cravens big break-through, Nightmare on Elm Street really struck a nerve when it was released and still can today. Nightmare is a decent flick, never a favorite of mine I still respect what it's accomplished, unfortuantely more were made. That's another story all together though.
