April 04, 2009 09:04:08

Jackie Earle Haley moves on from being an inkblots-masked hero in "Watchmen" to portraying an iconic killer in "A Nightmare on Elm Street" remake. Variety has reported that the Academy Award-nominated actor will take on the villainous role of Freddy Krueger, who was originally made famous by Robert Englund.

"Looking at his performance in 'Watchmen,' here's a guy playing a character under a mask yet you feel tremendous empathy for him," director Samuel Bayer said of what Haley can contribute to the movie. "And in Nightmare, he is going to be under prosthetic make-up. You have to feel something for the character. The greatest villains are multi-dimensional and I think he will bring that to the character."...

During the press day for David Goyer's upcoming thriller "The Unborn", producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form take time to talk about "A Nightmare on Elm Street" remake project. Confirming the project to Collider, they reveal that the movie is in its beginning stages and that bringing back Freddy Krueger to the big screen needs a serious planning since Krueger is a challenging character.

Acknowledging that Krueger is a silent killer as suggested by Form, Fuller shared, "So Freddy Krueger is a much more challenging character and that is not something that we just kind of stumble into and say 'Hey, let's just make him!' and go do it." He further explained, "It's something that we are treading very lightly on and I can tell you for sure that we don't have the answer yet."...

On their plan for the remake, Fuller fessed up that they are looking forward to make it like "Friday the 13th", the remake of Sean S. Cunningham's 1980 horror classic. "It's like what we're doing to 'Friday the 13th,'" he explained. "It's not Freddy cracking jokes. We want to make a horrifying movie."...

Billy Bob Thornton Eyed to Be Freddy Krueger in 'Nightmare' Remake
August 12, 2008 12:08:11

Providing a follow up to the report stating that Nightmare on Elm producer Brad Fuller wants a new Freddy Krueger for the remake, latest news concerning the casting of the iconic kids killer proposed that Billy Bob Thornton is being considered to take the part. This speculation allegedly has been sparked by Krueger's original depicter himself, Robert Englund.

Talking to a late night radio show Loveline in promotion of his horror comedy "Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer", the 61-year-old confessed that he has heard talks about the possibility of Thornton to slip on the red and black-stripped sweater for the role. Despite Englund's remark on the subject, Thornton's possible involvement should still be considered as a rumor, especially since no word is coming out from Platinum Dunes....

No Robert Englund's Freddy for 'Nightmare on Elm Street' Remake
August 11, 2008 03:08:58

Ever since the words on the remaking of Wes Craven's 1984 horror classic, "A Nightmare on Elm Street", surfaced, many has put up high hopes on seeing Robert Englund reprising his memorable role as the evil Freddy Krueger. However, it seems that it is not what Brad Fuller, one of the horror reboot's producers want to present the audience with.

Planning to deliver a different feeling to the new Krueger's tale, Fuller confessed at the 2008 San Diego Comic Con that he is more interested to introduce a new Freddy than to bring Englund back. "I think it has to be [a new Freddy] and I know fans hate to hear that and everyone says you have to put Robert in. He said it too," he said as quoted by Movies Online. "I think that in order to differentiate what we're doing from the other ones, we would need to find someone else to play that role."...
